Lovely quiet campsite in the French Ardennes. Camping for tranquility. Beautiful landscape (reminiscent of South Limburg), lots of nature, good cycling and strolling through the woods. Camping is located halfway up a hill overlooking a beautiful little valley and a ridge behind it. Beaudoux family is very nice, speaks only French, but the few Dutch words they know and from our side a little french school we were just fine. They sell excellent special local delicatessen. Nice camp for trips to Chimay in Belgium (Trappist), the upper Meuse Charleville (40 km), the fortress and the Cathedral of Laon Rocroi. From the Netherlands you'll go in a half day, also for short breaks and weekends. We were there during the May holiday. The new sanaitairblok was still under construction, but the former was simple and good / neat enough for us as campers who like to keep things simple. Furthermore, free tennis on the court in the village and swim in the lake Etang de la Motte northeast of Signy-le-Petit. Riding you can go to Le Croix Colas, including 3 km towards Signy-le-Petit. La Tuilerie is on the edge of a forest overlooking rolling meadows. The campsite allows generous space for 6 tents (no caravans or campervans). There is with no electricity on the site itself, but there are a fridge, a freezer and electricity in the toilet block for general use. La Tuilerie is situated half way between Dijon and Lyon, with easy access to the A6 motorway. The property is just outside Cormatin which has shops for your daily needs. Just 12 km away is Cluny, which has a couple of large and very well stocked supermarkets. The lively medieval market town of St Gengoux le National with its good range of shops and one supermarket is 9 km from La Tuilerie. Because of its unique position, being only a stone’s throw from the Voie Verte (a flat cycle/walking path that passes through South Burgundy from north to south) and because of the numerous well marked-out routes for walkers and cyclists that criss-cross the area, La Tuilerie is an excellent location for a cycling or walking holiday. You can even have a day out on horse-back to enjoy the area. For those holiday-makers seeking a more spiritual holiday, La Tuilerie has something special to offer. The peace and quiet here are perfect for those who would like to spend some time in Taizé, or who would like to attend one or two services. From the garden you can see the churches in Taizé, you can hear the bells three times a day and it is within walking distance. Further away, but easily visited by car, is the Tibetan Buddhist monastery Kagyu Ling at La Boulaye. It is possible to make a reservation and in the high season this is recommended to avoid disappointment.
